Jake Haener
Jake Haener Gets run with first-team offense
Wed, Jul 30, 2025, 7:10 PM
Haener (oblique) worked with the first-team offense at Wednesday's practice, Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football reports.
Analysis: Haener suffered a multi-week oblique injury back in May but is healed and receiving work with New Orleans' offensive starters. New coach Kellen Moore has made it clear that all three of Haener, Spencer Rattler and second-round rookie Tyler Shough will get run with the first team at least through the first preseason game. Haener appeared in eight regular-season games last season, making one start, and completed 18 of 39 passes for 226 yards (5.8 yards per attempt), one touchdown and one interception.
Juwan Johnson
Juwan Johnson Injury likely isn't serious
Wed, Jul 30, 2025, 5:49 PM
Johnson is expected to miss only a few days after suffering an undisclosed injury during Saints training camp, Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football reports.
Analysis: Coach Kellen Moore wouldn't clarify whether Johnson's health concern occurred Tuesday or Wednesday, but the Saints should have some clarity Thursday once testing has been undertaken, per John Sigler of USA Today. Underhill's report indicates Johnson avoided anything significant, but with fellow TEs Taysom Hill (knee) and Foster Moreau (knee) on the active/PUP list, holding Johnson out of drills until he's healthy likely is a prudent approach.
Juwan Johnson
Juwan Johnson Picks up undisclosed injury
Wed, Jul 30, 2025, 12:18 PM
Johnson (undisclosed) sustained an injury during training camp practices this week, John Sigler of USA Today reports.
Analysis: Saints head coach Kellen Moore declined to confirm whether Johnson's undisclosed injury occurred Wednesday or Tuesday, when New Orleans held a walkthrough before a team outing, but he said an update on the veteran tight end's health will arrive Thursday, after testing is complete. Johnson, who re-signed on a three-year, $30.75 million deal this offseason, has operated as the Saints' top tight end through the early portion of training camp, with Taysom Hill (knee) and Foster Moreau (knee) both on the PUP list.
Rashid Shaheed
Rashid Shaheed Adds weight over offseason
Fri, Jul 25, 2025, 11:42 AM
Shaheed reported to training camp this week at 190 pounds, Erin Summers of the Saints' official website reports.
Analysis: Shaheed was listed at 180 pounds last season but said Thursday that he put on weight in order to hold up better against contact. Shaheed insists he didn't lose any of his speed despite the additional 10 pounds. New Orleans' quarterback situation is a tough one, but Shaheed is locked into two-WR sets alongside Chris Olave and has the ability to take any catch to the end zone. He's an exciting target in best ball fantasy drafts and was fantasy's WR27 in half-PPR points per game before going down with a knee injury in Week 6 last season.
Tyler Shough
Tyler Shough Scheduled for first-team reps
Wed, Jul 23, 2025, 10:45 AM
Shough will take first-team reps Thursday, after Spencer Rattler worked with the starters Wednesday for the first practice of minicamp, Jeff Nowak of WWLAM reports.
Analysis: Rattler made six starts last season as a rookie fifth-round pick, although that might not help his case much under a new coaching staff considering he completed just 57 percent of his passes and lost all six games. Shough now comes in as a rookie second-round pick -- albeit one who will turn 26 in September -- to compete for the starting job that opened up when Derek Carr announced his retirement in May. Shough recently signed a fully guaranteed rookie contract, paving the way for normal participation in training camp after he was unsigned for the offseason program.
Spencer Rattler
Spencer Rattler Opens camp with starters
Wed, Jul 23, 2025, 10:34 AM
Rattler got most of the first-team reps Wednesday on the first day of training camp, but rookie Tyler Shough is scheduled to work with the starters Thursday, WWLAM's Jeff Nowak reports.
Analysis: In other words, the Saints will treat their QB job battle as a 50-50 competition, although Shough likely has the tiebreaker given his earlier draft status (second round) and Rattler's poor numbers last season. Taken in the fifth round last spring, Rattler ended up making six starts (all losses) and completing 57.0 percent of passes for 5.8 yards per attempt, with four touchdowns and five interceptions. He played better Week 18 at Tampa Bay, but Shough nonetheless seems like at least a slight favorite for the Week 1 start under a new coaching staff.
Chris Olave
Chris Olave Full participant to start camp
Tue, Jul 22, 2025, 2:26 PM
Olave (concussion) has no restrictions to begin training camp and will be a full participant, Erin Summers of the Saints' official website reports.
Analysis: Olave participated in the offseason program, so this was the expected news entering training camp. Nonetheless, it's noteworthy considering Olave's history of concussions. Olave was able to play in just eight regular-season games last season, and he's now going to be catching passes from someone other than Derek Carr in 2025. The Saints are holding a three-man quarterback competition this summer, with the candidates being second-round rookie Tyler Shough, 2024 fifth-rounder Spencer Rattler and 2023 fourth-round pick Jake Haener.
Foster Moreau
Foster Moreau Starts camp on PUP
Tue, Jul 22, 2025, 2:22 PM
The Saints placed Moreau (knee) on the active/PUP list Tuesday, Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football reports.
Analysis: Moreau was injured in the Saints' Week 18 regular-season finale and required offseason surgery. His return timeline remains unclear after he missed all of the offseason program. Once healthy, Moreau figures to be apart of New Orleans' three-man weave at tight end, which also includes Juwan Johnson and Taysom Hill (knee), who is also opening camp on active/PUP while he works his way back from a torn ACL in his left knee.
Taysom Hill
Taysom Hill Opens camp on PUP list
Tue, Jul 22, 2025, 2:19 PM
The Saints placed Hill (knee) on the active/PUP list Tuesday, Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football reports.
Analysis: Hill suffered a torn ACL in his left knee in Week 13 last season and is still working his way back from the injury. It's unclear at this point if the soon-to-be 35-year-old will be ready in time for the Week 1 season opener. With a new coaching staff in New Orleans, it also remains to be seen what kind of role Hill will play in coach Kellen Moore's offense this upcoming season.
Tyler Shough
Tyler Shough Gets fully guaranteed rookie deal
Sat, Jul 19, 2025, 12:31 PM
Shough agreed to terms on his four-year rookie contract with the Saints on Saturday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Analysis: Shough gets his entire $10.8 million rookie contract guaranteed as well as an annual roster bonus payment structure, which no other rookie selected outside the first round has. The No. 40 overall pick of the 2025 NFL Draft, Shough enters training camp primed for a three-way competition between himself, Spencer Rattler and Jake Haener (oblique) for the Week 1 starting job, an opportunity opened up by the offseason retirement of Derek Carr (shoulder). While Shough boasts the least NFL experience of the trio, he will turn 26 in September, so if he manages to impress in training camp there will be little incentive to keep him sidelined for any sort of developmental period.
Cam Akers
Cam Akers Gets chance with Saints
Fri, Jun 13, 2025, 5:20 PM
The Saints signed Akers to a contract Friday, Dianna Russini of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: In his fifth NFL campaign in 2024, Akers split time between the Texans and Vikings, recording 104 carries for 444 yards (4.3 YPC) and two touchdowns and 14 catches (on 18 targets) for 68 yards and three more TDs. He entered the offseason as an unrestricted free agent and went without much interest until New Orleans' mandatory minicamp this week, when he worked out for the team. Akers showed enough to earn another opportunity, but he joins a crowded backfield behind No. 1 option Alvin Kamara along with Kendre Miller and rookie sixth-rounder Devin Neal.
Dallin Holker
Dallin Holker Back at practice
Wed, Jun 11, 2025, 6:15 PM
Holker (undisclosed) participated during minicamp Wednesday, Mike Triplett of NewOrleans.Football reports.
Analysis: Holker was hindered by a minor injury earlier in the offseason, but he now seems to be back to full strength. Although he suited up for 12 games last season, he might not be a lock for a spot on New Orleans' final 53-man roster when the 2025 season starts.
Alvin Kamara
Alvin Kamara Back on the field
Tue, Jun 10, 2025, 4:59 PM
Kamara (groin) participated in Tuesday's minicamp practice.
Analysis: Kamara, who missed the last three games of the 2024 regular season with a groin injury, hadn't been participating in the Saints' voluntary workouts this offseason, but his activity during Tuesday's mandatory minicamp session demonstrates that he's moved past the issue. While there's no doubt that Kamara slots in as the team's No. 1 back as the coming campaign approaches, it remains to be seen how the rest of the New Orleans backfield depth chart will shake out prior to Week 1. For now, the top candidates for complementary work behind Kamara (who recorded 228 carries and 68 catches in 14 contests last year) are Kendre Miller, Devin Neal and Clyde Edwards-Helaire.
Alvin Kamara
Alvin Kamara Not at voluntary OTAs
Thu, Jun 5, 2025, 4:23 PM
Kamara (groin) hasn't been participating in the Saints' voluntary workouts this offseason, Matthew Paras of the New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.
Analysis: Kamara missed the last three games of the 2024 regular season with a groin injury, but he's presumably past the issue, a notion that will be confirmed when he next takes the field with his teammates, which may arrive when the Saints hold their mandatory minicamp June 10-12. When he's available, Kamara remains entrenched as the team's No. 1 back, but Paras suggests that the backfield pecking order behind that isn't settled. In the running for slotting behind Kamara are Kendre Miller, Devin Neal and Clyde Edwards-Helaire, while Velus Jones, Xazavian Valladay and Marcus Yarns also are in the depth mix for now.
Rashid Shaheed
Rashid Shaheed Looks back to full health
Fri, May 30, 2025, 9:59 AM
Shaheed (knee) is participating in OTAs without any apparent restrictions and joined Chris Olave (concussion) in punt-return drills Thursday, Luke Johnson of NOLA.com reports.
Analysis: Shaheed and Olave have both looked fully healthy at OTAs, per Matthew Paras of NOLA.com, an encouraging development as the Saints work through a three-way quarterback competition to recover from the offseason retirement of Derek Carr (shoulder). Rookie second-round pick Tyler Shough, 2024 fifth-rounder Spencer Rattler and third-year pro Jake Haener (oblique) all appear to have a legitimate shot at securing the starting gig for Week 1. With Haener sidelined multiple weeks, and potentially until training camp, Shaheed's current focus will be to build chemistry with Shough and Rattler. His full participation level aligns with the four-to-six-month recovery timetable attached to the season-ending meniscus injury Shaheed suffered last October.
Kendre Miller
Kendre Miller Healthy entering Year 3
Fri, May 30, 2025, 9:47 AM
Miller (concussion) participated in voluntary OTAs on Thursday, while starter Alvin Kamara (groin) was not in attendance, Luke Johnson of NOLA.com reports.
Analysis: Miller missed New Orleans' regular-season finale due to a concussion in 2024, after a pair of hamstring injuries had forced him to miss all but two of the team's first 12 games; however, he's now fully healthy. Miller will turn only 23 in June, so he still has an opportunity to secure the No. 2 role behind Kamara, a three-down workhorse who is entering his age 30-season. Clyde Edwards-Helaire and rookie sixth-rounder Devin Neal represent Miller's top competition for backup reps. Head coach Kellen Moore said he views this offseason as "a blank slate" for Miller, per John Sigler of USA Today, but the reality is that the 2023 third-round pick is likely running out of chances to prove he can stay healthy. Injuries have limited Miller to just 14 regular-season appearances (out of 34 possible games) since entering the league, and he's mustered 80 carries for 304 yards (3.8 YPC) and two scores in that span.
Chris Olave
Chris Olave Full participant at OTAs
Fri, May 30, 2025, 9:16 AM
Olave (concussion) is participating in OTAs without restrictions and took reps returning punts Thursday, Luke Johnson of NOLA.com reports.
Analysis: Olave hasn't been tasked with fielding punts or kickoffs once since entering the league in 2022, so Thursday's special-teams reps likely don't forebode any actual upcoming usage in the return game. It's simply encouraging to note that the fourth-year pro looks completely healthy at spring practices, as Matthew Paras of NOLA.com reports, and that he's been available to assist with New Orleans' three-way quarterback competition that's the result of Derek Carr's (shoulder) recent retirement announcement. Olave has some experience playing with both Spencer Rattler and Jake Haener (oblique), the latter who could be out until training camp, but rookie second-rounder Tyler Shough is an entirely new name in the mix. The Saints exercised Olave's fifth-year option in April, so his rookie deal with the team now runs through 2026.
Dallin Holker
Dallin Holker Dealing with injury
Thu, May 22, 2025, 2:13 PM
Head coach Kellen Moore told reporters Thursday that Holker (undisclosed) is dealing with a "minor" injury, Matthew Paras of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.
Analysis: The Colorado State product served as the Saints' No. 3 tight end in 2024, catching three of his four targets for 21 yards while playing 104 total snaps (73 offensive, 31 on special teams) across 12 regular-season games. With Holker and Foster Moreau (knee) currently sidelined, Jack Stoll and Moliki Matavao will likely see increased offensive reps.
Foster Moreau
Foster Moreau Missing offseason program
Thu, May 22, 2025, 2:08 PM
Head coach Kellen Moore told reporters Thursday that Moreau (knee) won't participate in the team's offseason program, Matthew Paras of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.
Analysis: Moreau is still recovering from the knee injury sustained in early January, so it's no surprise he'll be sidelined for the Saints' offseason activities. Since coming over from Las Vegas ahead of the 2023 season, Moreau has appeared in 32 regular-season games, recording 53 receptions for 606 yards and six touchdowns. He played 711 offensive snaps in 2024 -- the second-most of his career -- so once he returns from injury, Moreau is likely to compete for a role as one of the Saints' top vertical threats at tight end.
Taysom Hill
Taysom Hill Won't take part in OTAs
Thu, May 22, 2025, 1:28 PM
Saints head coach Kellen Moore said Thursday that Hill (ACL) and Foster Moreau (knee) are both rehabbing and will miss OTAs and mandatory minicamp, Matthew Paras of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.
Analysis: Hill is recovering from a late-season left ACL tear suffered last December, making it no guarantee that he's ready for the start of training camp either. The 34-year-old carries a cap hit of nearly $18 million for 2025, including a non-guaranteed $10 million base salary, so he also still seems a likely candidate to have his contract restructured or become a cap casualty. With both Hill and Moreau sidelined, Juwan Johnson, who inked a three-year extension with New Orleans in March, will take first-team TE reps and get to build chemistry with both Tyler Shough and Spencer Rattler during the offseason program. Jake Haener (oblique) also is part of this team's three-way quarterback competition, but he may miss the remainder of offseason activities due to a recent injury.
